Acupuncture Services

The concept of acupuncture is so foreign and unfamiliar to us that many questions naturally arise. What is it? What problems can it treat? How can you insert thin needles into the body and get results? Is it magic, mumbo jumbo or merely the placebo effect?

Though miraculous things sometimes do sometimes occur, there is nothing magical about acupuncture.

Treatments:

Treatments vary from person to person – in one instance you may benefit best from acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal treatments, in another you may need a prescription and further diagnostic work ups – maybe a referral, in another you may best be treated with naturopathic medicine - or maybe all of the above.

As a primary care physician I will diagnose you with a Western Diagnosis and as an Acupuncturist I will diagnose you with a TCM diagnosis.

That’s what is great – you can get all of the above with me.

What can acupuncture treat?

Because of its different theories and concepts – there isn’t a thing it can’t treat.

Remember this is a form of medicine that has existed for over 2,500 years. They may have different names for things, but lets be honest, there aren’t many new diseases we have that they didn’t see and treat.

Acupuncture works great for:

  • Keeping you healthy – preventive medicine
  • Pain management
  • Musculoskeletal injuries/soreness
  • Arthritis
  • Neurological conditions – headaches and insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Stress/Anxiety
  • Women’s Health – PMS, Menopause,
  • Chronic Illness
  • Colds and Flus
  • Allergies
  • Gastrointestinal Conditions – IBS, IBD, GERD & poor digestion

What does an acupuncture treatment look like and how long will you have to come in?

Generally, your first treatment will last from an hour to an hour and a half. Return visits last from 45 to 60 minutes. The atmosphere here is very relaxed. After taking a history and doing some diagnostic tests, you will lie down on a comfy, clean massage table and receive the treatment. I often play music in the room and provide you with some tea or water.

The number of acupuncture visits varies from person to person – depending on the condition. The goal is to have you well and no longer coming to see me, then I know we succeeded. This can take from 1 to 5 or more treatments. You will generally see or feel a change for the better right from the start.

If there is no change, we need to re-evaluate and take a new course of treatment.
